walking beside you, Elaine

along fluorescent time-barriers

I stopped & cracked the hatch

to watch & listen

to future rains fall flat

before the timeless smell

of fatuous promise

& hopes that never existed –

tawdry, glittering,

palsied in brilliant unease

under the flat chalk sky

of model psychosis:

the why & where
